Athletes/Celebrities in Ads

Within the past few days i have been seeing more and more advertisements that use a famous person or popular figure to help advertise their product. Companies are now using faces that we recognize and like in their commercials to try and help capture our attention better. Some may use a famous athlete and others may use well known movie star or celebrity. Earlier today i saw a State Farm commercial that had Chris Paul in it, after i watched it I wonder how using a famous figure can help influence the audience into buying whatever product that company is trying to sell. If they are using more well known and famous people then wouldn't we pay more attention to it? Seeing famous people in advertisements may persuade the casual viewer to buy their product because we may think that it is better because these celebrities use it. I think that this may ring true because celebrities are now very influential because of things like social media and now that they are being used to advertise certain products this may get the viewer to buy it. A lot of companies have been doing this recently and I cant blame them, why wouldn't you use a celebrity to endorse your product? I find it interesting how these companies are using people with large followings to do their advertising for them, it definitely helps in my opinion to make the reader pay attention to the ad more because it is someone we actually know. Whenever i see an ad with a famous athlete or celebrity I usually end up watching the whole thing where as if i was watching a commercial with ordinary people then i would probably skip it.

  1. I agree with you in the fact that celebrities do attract the attention of people so they are better to have in ads rather than normal people. I also think celebrities have a big effect in social media because people will look up to them and they have a huge influence

  2. I believe that having an athlete or any famous person will help target more consumers to whatever the product is. If someone recognizes the person, then it'll attract them to buying whatever the product is even more
